Thinking of pretty things leads me to good news. The lovely Rachel from Heart of Light has opened an Etsy shop, yep you heard right and about time too! She has so many beautiful handmade headbands for sale and oh so pretty...

If you're quick enough, this lovely may still be available because who doesn't need a ruffley headband! Oh and she can also make all the headbands into belt sizes as well...
Recently I've been thinking that I'd like to try and make my own clothing, so this week I've bought a vintage clothing pattern from 13th Faerie on Etsy. There are so many lovely vintage patterns on Etsy that they're worth looking at just for the illustrations.
I figured I'd better try and start off simple, as my knowledge of dress making is pretty non existant and it was the words 'Simple to Sew' that sold me! I'm thinking I might make this shorter than the pattern suggests and maybe lower the neck line a little. Ho hum, perhaps I should actually wait and see how complicated this looks before I start making my own adjustments lol!
I also really want the pattern below, from here
but it's about three sizes bigger than I need. Apparently it's easy to resize patterns - mmmmm but I'm not convinced, especially for a novice like myself. Any thoughts anyone?

yep, it's easy, just trim down the pattern by an inch or 2 (depending how over sized it is)
Such lovelies...And I love the old sewing patterns! Can't wait to see what you make. Happy Day :o)
i love using old patterns. usually the bust measurement fits just right but the waist is super tiny. current patterns always seem to be too big but bigger is better - you can always take it in. old sewing books are a great resource - the techniques don't change, and many of the pics are good for a laugh.
Oh I love rachels headband too they are so pretty! Reseizing sounds like a big job to me but i am still very much only a beginner, the pattern looks cute tho!
Thanks for the kind words!
FYI pattern sizes - you might already know this, but they aren't anything like ready to wear sizes. Always check the measurements on the pattern against your measurements.
o yes love Rachel's headbands, that green one is gorgeous. I've just bought a whole lot of vintage patterns this week off our equivalent of ebay. It probably wouldn't be too hard to size a pattern down but personally I'd wait to find one in your size, I'm sure you will, there are so many great ones around, I know I've seen plenty similar to the one you like (In fact I'll keep an eye out for you ;).
aren't those headbands adorable!
